The Beaten Path

The flash of silver and yellow is what drew my eyes up from my phone. I was walking along a narrow path through a little park on my way home. A sign with a crossed-out bicycle was by the entry, but that did not deter the silver and yellow lady from hopping the curb with a determined look on her face. She had places to go in her yellow sundress with a pineapple print, her hair put up, hands tight on the hand grips. The silver handlebars had a sharp glance of sunlight from the east – that’s what caught my attention when it was almost too late. I twisted sharply to the right and kept walking as she sped by in a racer’s lean. An ordinance was broken, I didn’t look back.
