A field, yellow and brown, under a gray sky
With distant bands of slanting grey-white rain
A few dark birds flying before them,
Swift ups and downs – playing
I stared
The road behind me mismatched my car
What happened to me?
Peace was unravelling in the glowing field with muted colors
Under the grey sky. The rain never approaching
A fragile truce
If I did not see it, it would not disappear
So I continued watching the switching and rolling birds
Moving in circles, spiraling close to the rain
When should it end? Why should it end?
There was no end
‘
It was one of those days
Drive further? The rain would follow
The birds would not but more would come
The destination could change, ending the glow
Of yellow and brown
The road would continue that day
Empty
No crossing the yellow line
Even so
