A Friend in Green

A friend in green walks along a magical forest path

Over an underground lake (aren’t they all?)

And sees Harvey in a hammock, sipping tea: Delirious

A duck, a swan, a hawk, flying about his head

Harold walks by on a nearby path

Sipping hot cocoa & marshmallows: Singing

Singing high, singing low

(But to Harvey no hello)

Harvey swings his legs on his hammock and notices

The fire under his tea is flickering out

The two paths cross but at a loss

Harvey lights matches; Harold smells sulfur

Burning and runs away while Harvey

Tends his fire

And his feathered friends fly miles away

The friend in green keeps the narrow miss in mind

And tells green lies about the time

Harold and Harvey parted ways

How one ran and the other stayed

When feathered friends flew miles away

Harvey’s fire now burns bright

As the golden evening turns to night

Harvey’s gone, now, far away

And before too long, he’s out of sight
