A Soldier Walks Alone

See the brightness of a woman’s smile

Her diamonds shining down, a cascading waterfall

Above her, a Unicorn springs from the cliff –

Becomes a Pegasus, flying

Below, a lone soldier walks home

Over trampled earth from many years of battle

It occurs to him that glass shines while steel is dull

And an aggressor never shares a secret

A woman knows it is hers alone

He had heard it once but became confused

By her smile
